Camp Wood is near Uvalde, home of the John Nance Garner Museum and historic Janie Briscoe Opera House; Garner State Park; Lost Maples Park; Rocksprings, where you can see massive bat flights during summer evenings; Caverns of Sonora; and Del Rio, gateway to Old Mexico.

Other area activities include Old Settlers’ Day the first week-end of August every year and Christmas in the Canyon every December.

While traveling the roads near Camp Wood you will often see herds of white tail and/or axis deer, turkeys, and other native species as well exotic animals such as camels, kangaroos, giraffes, and other critters.
