Camp Wood is rated as one of the fifteen most scenic spots in Texas, and the Three Sisters roads are near the top of anyone’s list. The Three Sisters are F.M. 335, F.M. 336, and FM 337. The Sisters travel through massive timbered hills, steep cliffs, secluded valleys and streams. The area is “The Country of 1,100 Springs.”
Camp Wood is near Uvalde, home of the John Nance Garner Museum and historic Janie Briscoe Opera House; Garner State Park; Lost Maples Park; Rocksprings, where you can see massive bat flights during summer evenings; Caverns of Sonora; and Del Rio, gateway to Old Mexico.
Other area activities include Old Settlers’ Day the first week-end of August every year and Christmas in the Canyon every December.
While traveling the roads near Camp Wood you will often see herds of white tail and/or axis deer, turkeys, and other native species as well exotic animals such as camels, kangaroos, giraffes, and other critters.
